GRINTER RESERVE Newcomb, Geelong
Client: City of Greater Geelong
Timing: December 2022
Surface Type: Synthetic Grass and Natural Turf
Located in the heart of the City of Greater Geelong, Grinter Reserve plays a vital role in supporting community sport and recreation. In partnership with the Newcomb and District Cricket Club, the reserve is committed to providing inclusive cricket playing and social opportunities for all members of the community — a vision that called for a significant facility upgrade.
iDwala was engaged to design a new three-lane synthetic grass training facility and four-lane natural turf cricket facility to meet the growing demand for high-quality, accessible training spaces. To optimise site usage and improve integration with other sports infrastructure, iDwala strategically relocated the existing cricket nets from their original remote position to a new location adjacent to the netball courts.
This new layout successfully prevents spatial conflict with existing netball activity, while also enabling future westward expansion of the reserve. The three synthetic cricket lanes are publicly accessible, while the four natural turf nets are reserved for club training, supporting structured development pathways.
With strong connections to both the Geelong Cricket Association and Cricket Victoria, iDwala leveraged deep expertise to deliver a confident and inclusive design. The result is a safe, playable, and community-focused facility that meets modern standards and enhances participation opportunities across the region.
