WESTERN PARK RESERVE, WARRAGUL
Client: Baw Baw Shire Council
Timing: 2020
Surface Type: Acrylic
The need for a new netball pavilion and upgraded courts at Western Park was identified in the Warragul Outdoor Recreation Plan Review 2019, which Baw Baw Shire Council adopted on 26 June 2019. This review included extensive community consultation, shaping the project’s goals and desired outcomes.
Following strong advocacy from both the Warragul Football and Netball Club and the Warragul Industrials Football Netball Club, the Council allocated $60,000 in its 2019/20 Capital Works Program for design and investigation. iDwala was subsequently engaged to develop detailed designs for the new courts, as the existing courts and small netball pavilion were no longer compliant with current sporting body requirements and were reaching the end of their lifespan.
As part of iDwala’s design, the two courts were realigned to optimise the available space at the reserve and to accommodate the planned pavilion upgrade. This strategic realignment enhanced both the functionality and integration of the new sporting facilities within the existing infrastructure.
In August 2020, Baw Baw Shire Council secured $1.44 million through the COVID-19 Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program, advancing the project to its construction phase. iDwala is proud to have been part of the team that delivered a safe, compliant, and high-quality sporting facility that will serve the Warragul community for generations to come.
