Timing: February 2020 – January 2021

Surface Type: Acrylic
iDwala was awarded the construction tender by Bass Coast Shire Council for the construction of one tennis court and one multisport court at Grantville Recreation Reserve in Corinella, Victoria.
Supporting the Councils mission towards community engagement and active recreation, the project includes a tennis court with an acrylic playing surface which meets Tennis Victoria’s guidelines, a multi-purpose court, which includes a netball and basketball ring, futsal goals and is line marked to accommodate an additional tennis court as well as featuring new fencing, picnic shelter and table setting, including a new shelter for the tennis court.
When the bulk earthworks were undertaken, an extremely weak and highly saturated subgrade was uncovered and as such, additional geotechnical testing was undertaken to determine the best solution to remediate and strengthen the existing subgrade. Due to an extremely wet autumn and winter it was decided in consultation with Council to leave the site until October 2020 before works recommenced, allowing the subgrade to dry sufficiently enabling remedial works to be completed to a high level.
Australian-made Laykold acrylic surfacing was chosen for these high use facilities. The tennis court features Laykold Masters and the multipurpose court has been surfaced with Laykold Advantage, both systems featuring excellent UV resistance, slip reduction and long term durability.
The finished courts have seen the activation and enthusiasm return to the surrounding community and complement the adjacent community skate park.
